Everyone needs support at one time or another, it helps us to cope and to support ourselves too.  If you are reading this and are someone who injures or harms themselves you will understand that there are usually both short term and long term reasons.  The list of distressing life experiences can go from loss or trauma as a child or teenager, abuse and physical maltreatment, sexual interference, neglect and emotional abuse, to loss and isolation in adult life.  Any or all of this, and more, can cause feelings of guilt, alongside feelings of betrayal and helplessness.

Contact with peple who care about you, a decent place to live, a way of relaxing, all of these give support.  But we might need extra support when we are dealing with painful feelings experiences, or when something that is happening today triggers feelings of anguish and pain from the past.

You don't have to deal with this on your own.

There are a number of websites listing organisations and self-help, you can find them on our useful resources page .  If you are in or near Shropshire you might already know of the work of Shropshire Mind, and of the well-established support group for women who have issues of self-harm.  "Sapphire" meets most weeks at Observer House and welcomes anyone who needs to deal with either short or long term issues of self-harm.  There are also projects like the befriending scheme, seven day drop-ins, and a new counselling project to help with loneliness and isolation.

If you would like to enquire about coming to any of Shropshire Mind's groups or talk to someone on a one to one basis,  please ring us on 01743 368647 or email: admin@shropshiremind.org
