Being a volunteer with Shropshire Mind can be a very satisfying and rewarding experience. It can help you to develop new skills and can even be a pathway to paid employment in the caring sector.

Just ring 01743 368647 and we will send you an application form to fill in and return to us. Alternatively, you can download a form from the following link (volunteer application), complete it and email it back to us.
When we have received your application form, we will contact you to ask you to pop in and see us for an informal chat about why you would like to become a volunteer, what skills or life experience would you bring and what you hope get out of it.
Following the informal chat we take up references
We hold free training courses for new volunteers around three times a year. Following receipt of satisfactory references we will arrange for you to attend the next available course. Ongoing development training is also provided.
After your initial training we will have another chat with you, just to make sure that volunteering with Shropshire Mind is what you envisaged it would be and to see which area(s) of volunteering you would like to be involved in and your general availability.
As we are working with vulnerable people it is essential that all our volunteers have an enhanced CRB check prior to becoming active volunteers. Once you have completed the form and provided the necessary documentation to confirm your identity and address your form is then sent off and is usually processed within a week to 10 days.
Whether you decide to volunteer as a befriender, to work in our group sessions or both, you will initially be given a mentor (experienced volunteer) to guide and support you as you find your feet.
