Shropshire MHS was established in 1974 and provides a wide range of quality services across the county for the one in four people and their families, who are affected by mental and emotional distress. We help to bridge the gap between being unwell and full independence for the people who use our service. Some people need support in many areas of their lives, whilst others in just a few. Some people need support for long periods of time and others for only a short while.
Our vision is that everyone has the right to live equally with others and to enjoy a good quality of life. Also, that people who use our service are treated with respect, justice and enjoy equality of access to services.
We help to enable people who use our services to play the fullest possible part in their own communities and their own recovery. We work together in partnership with people to make sure that their right to make choices is preserved. We are also striving to reduce the debilitation, alienation, stigma and social isolation experienced by vulnerable people living in rural areas.
Here at Shropshire Mental Health Support, we offer a 24-hour support telephone service. We also offer a range of groups in our Shrewsbury based centre, including our Women’s Group, Men’s Group, Crafty Afty and walking Groups, in addition to that we run a mental health café service , Calmer Café, which is specifically designed for people who are struggling with their mental health and may need a safe place to talk and receive support.. This is by appointment only Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday . 5.30pm – 9.30pm
We hope to re-start our outreach groups soon. Pre covid those services extended beyond Shrewsbury to several groups held in places such as Whitchurch, Bridgnorth, Ludlow and Market Drayton. These groups are run by our excellent team of volunteers.
Shropshire MHS operates with a small team of dedicated staff and large team of exceptional volunteers. We have a board of trustees who meet monthly and hold the charity’s activities to account.
